About Bill Finewood
Bill Finewood is a professional artist/illustrator and educator. He is a life-long resident of Newark, NY. Coupling the notions of hard work, a creative outlook, flexibility and a desire to approach projects from a different point of view has allowed him to sustain a successful career in art.
Bill is currently an Associate Professor and former Coordinator of the Illustration program in the School of Art at Rochester Institute of Technology. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University and has worked in illustration/graphic design since 1974.
His personal studies and experimentation provided practical knowledge and understanding of what makes good composition, proper contrast, technical skill, work ethic and craftsmanship. Blending these attributes and a driven desire to create contributed to the generation of notable works of art. These experiences provided a rare opportunity to interact successfully with a broad spectrum of commercially proficient professionals while guiding students working in a variety of media ranging from traditional painting, drawing and sculpture as well as current digital techniques.
His work has been commissioned by clients including: Xerox, Mobil, DuPont, Holt Rinehart and Winston, Citibank, Federal Reserve Bank, Dunn and Bradstreet, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Nalge Company, Time, Habitat for Humanity and Fisher-Price Toys. His dimensional illustrations have been exhibited in shows including the Society of Illustrators, the Dimensional and Digital Illustrators Awards Show and American Illustration.
He served as a member of the Board of Directors for ICON4 (the Illustration Conference, San Francisco, 2005) and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Wayne County Council for the Arts, Inc. (Newark, NY).
